At Minvalonnie, every pairing is carefully planned with purpose and intention.
We do not breed casually or for convenience. Each decision is made with long‑term health, temperament and the future of the breed in mind.
Our goal is always the same:
• To improve the breed
• To protect and prioritise health
• To produce stable, well‑balanced temperaments
• To maintain correct Cavalier type
• To raise confident, family‑ready puppies
This page explains how we evaluate and select each pairing.
Health is the foundation of every pairing we plan.
All of our breeding dogs complete the full range of health testing appropriate for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

When planning a pairing, we assess:
• Individual health results
• Family history
• Pedigree trends
• Genetic compatibility
• Long‑term risk reduction
Health results are never viewed in isolation — they are considered alongside temperament, structure and overall suitability.
While no breeder can guarantee a completely risk‑free puppy, we do everything within our control to minimise risk and breed responsibly.
A healthy dog must also have a stable, suitable temperament.
We carefully select dogs that are:
• Affectionate and people‑focused
• Calm and emotionally stable
• Confident without being overwhelming
• Adaptable to home life
• Good with other dogs
Both parents must demonstrate the kind of temperament we want to pass on to future generations.
We will never breed from a dog whose temperament is unsuitable, unpredictable or incompatible with family life.
We aim to preserve and improve correct breed type by considering:
• Overall balance and proportion
• Head shape and expression
• Movement and soundness
• Coat quality
• Classic Cavalier features
Each pairing is chosen so that both dogs complement one another.
We do not breed for exaggeration or trends — only for correct, healthy, traditional Cavalier type.
We also consider the Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) when planning a litter.
Our aim is to:
• Keep COI within a responsible range
• Maintain genetic diversity
• Support long‑term breed health
A well‑balanced COI helps reduce the risk of inherited issues and supports stronger, healthier puppies.
No pairing is ever random.
Each one is planned to:
• Strengthen health
• Improve temperament
• Maintain or improve structure
• Contribute positively to the breed
If a pairing does not meet our standards, it simply does not happen.
We are always open about our breeding decisions and health testing.
Prospective owners are welcome to:
• Ask questions
• View health information
• Understand how and why a pairing was chosen
Full pairing explanations — including detailed breakdowns of both parents — are provided to our puppy owners and reflected in our contracts and documentation.
